About the event
Curation has begun for Toi Matariki | Exhibition 2023 - a collection of creative reflections from our community.
This year’s theme is Kua haehae ngā hihi o Matariki | The rays of Matariki are spread, people say this whakatauki when Matariki can be seen bright in the night sky. The rays of its stars are thought to carry messages for the people. Matariki is a time to share stories, reflect on the past and plan for the future.
Please think creatively, any artistic medium goes, within reason ;)
Ideas for creations:
- Art works on Paper or Card
- Photography (Digital or Print)
- A Poem or Song
- Something theatrical or a TV episode perhaps
- Music
- A Story
- An Installation
- Dance
Space is limited, so we would love to hear what you are planning to allow us to allocate the appropriate space for your creations! (See proposal link below)
The exhibition will open on Monday July 3rd in conjunction with Matariki opening events and will continue through the period of Matariki Celebrations and the month of July to give whānau and friends a good opportunity to see the wondrous Matariki inspired creations. (Monday July 03 – Monday 31 July 2023)
Please submit your proposal by Friday the 16th of June, although the sooner the better. Once your proposal has been approved by our team, we will need to receive your Mahi by no later than Friday the 23rd of June.
